Along with an updated condition of service, the Federal Government has authorized a new unified compensation structure for employees of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

The National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission received an official letter from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation expressing the consent.

The altered salary structure will go into effect on June 1, 2026, per the letter dated April 29, 2026, signed by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary, General Services, on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The letter said, "I am instructed to communicate that the suggested consolidated salary structure for NiMet with an effective date of June 1, 2026 has been approved by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation."

"Re-Request for Salary Relativity Implementation in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet)" was the title of the document, with reference number 58957/S.2/T1/40.

It also affirmed that the permission is in line with a previous request made by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission in a letter dated March 23, 2026.

With implementation slated to start in the middle of 2026, the development represents a formal change to the compensation structure for NiMet employees.
